Boyarbreen Glacier (Bøyabreen)
In the evening we made a short stop near another tongue of the same huge glacier Jostedalsbreen.
This tongue is called Boyarbreen (Bøyabreen on map) and crawls along the south-western slope of the array Yostedal. This is the lower edge of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier, glacial lake Brevatnet is at elevation 145 meters above sea level.
Not very long ago, the language reached the water. During its history, the glaciers advancing and retreating, not once, in the course of the century the edge of ice can be shifted to many miles.
Now, as well as tongue Briksdalsbreen, here remained only a small piece near the lake , protected from the sun's rays by high cliffs.
On the high part it can be seen blue thousand-years ice, which is formed high in the mountains and gradually flows down. The bottom - ice white, young, fed by winter snows and melting in the summer.
